to the very many things to do and see within a one hour drive of

Galway
City is less than an hour's drive away and this
vibrant city, as you would expect, has every conceivable
facility on offer to shoppers, diners, movie lovers and so on
Just outside
Castlebar, you'll find the
Irish National Museum of
Country Life, which is well worth a visit for
both adults and children. And
Castlebar itself, being the county town
of Mayo has a
substantial shopping centre with most major brand supermarkets
and department stores, plus cinema and theatre
Galway Race Course has a comprehensive annual
fixture list and attracts vast crowds from all over Ireland,
with the top jockeys and horses in attendance. The full fixture

Westport, on the West coast of
County Mayo,
is another town worth visiting with a decent amount of shops and
eating places and it is also next to the coast. There are some
fabulous beaches nearby, including
Louisburgh Beach shown above
There's a fabulous scenic drive or bike
ride which starts from
Westport called the
Great Western Greenway, which runs to
Achill Island
overlooking the wild Atlantic
Ocean. There are maps of this route available
highlighting all of the main features and eating places along
the way
The nearest airport is
Ireland West Airport,
Knock which is less than an hour's drive away
